Banksy: You Are an Acceptable Level of Threat
Compiled by: Gary Shove and Patrick Potter
Publishers: Carpet Bombing Culture

Banksy has loads of stuff out there, so how do you keep up with his extensive output... try this publication out!

Ok, this is not an official Banksy book but he just doesn't have the time to compile one. What with his touring the globe and busy life style, we recon this publication is the next best thing to Banksy doing it himself. It is a well documented, vibrant hard back with nearly everything that Banksy has to offer to date.

Two quotes from the text:

"Graffiti is a form of guerilla warfare. It is a way of snatching power, territory and glory from a bigger better equipped enemy".

"Throughout Banksy was steadfast in pointing out that this 'Cool Britannia' thing was all shit. He was the little boy who said that the emperor isn't wearing any cloths. His campaign was massive and sustained like a well planned military action. He seemed to be everywhere you looked".

In our opinion this book is a good sturdy no bull account of Banksy, then and now! Ace text and clear images and we really like the overall presentation. Believe us, we have seen a lot of Banksy titles in the past and we defo think this is the one to have.

Ok, we'll let the man himself have the last word:
"Graffiti doesn't always spoil buildings. In fact, it's the only way to improve a lot of them. In the space of a few hours with a couple of hundred cans of paint, I'm hoping we can transform a dark, forgotten filth pit into an oasis of beautiful art - in a dark, forgotten filth pit".

Upfest Bristol, UK...The Aftermath

Europe's largest urban art festival Upfest has announced the impressive international line up for its fifth year and took over the cultural home of UK graffiti, Bristol. The event takes place over Jubilee weekend 2nd -- 4th June.

This year Upfest has attracted over 250 of the most groundbreaking graffiti artists the world has to offer. Descending onto Southville, Bristol they will consume over two miles of the city to paint live for three days and create over 20,000 square foot of artwork.

A selection of the biggest names in international graffiti culture will be taking to the streets of Bristol from a total of 18 countries. The international line up includes artists such as Ches (Russia), Aske (Russia), Deuz (France), Frode (Italy), Guy Denning (France) and Mr OneTeas (Monaco). Over 50 international artists will be arriving from other countries such as Colombia, USA, Spain, Norway, Germany, South Africa and Holland.

2012 has be its biggest yet and festival organisers and the program of events will close off the surrounding streets for the hours of the festival, entertaining visitors across the Jubilee weekend. The Graffiti Academy ran 90 graffiti tutorials for those turned their hand at painting.

The festival helps raise funds and more importantly awareness for the Bristol based charity NACOA, who work to address the problems children have growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism. Celebrity patrons such as Elle MacPherson, Geraldine James OBE and Fergal Keane OBE are proud supporters of the only organisation in the UK which offers these services. Upfest is a completely volunteer led festival and has so far raised £15,000 for the charity.

RDC: Great job guys... A BIG shout goes out to Upfest for the info plus vid and Rick Photos 101 for the pics.

"Outside In"
Two Man Show Featuring
Aaron Jasinski & Bryan Collins

From June 23rd 2012
Ends August 11 2012

Outside vs Inside.
We experience things quite differently depending on if we are observing them or a part of them. Viewing a challenge, such as attending college or approaching an attractive person, can seem like a big, intimidating thing. By the time you are in your 2nd or 3rd year of college or have become good friends with that good looking person, the previously daunting situation no longer feels so menacing.

Further, there are some who find solace in living as outsiders and prefer to rarely engage in socially inclusive circumstances. Punk rockers, anarchists, artists, musicians, scientists, mathematicians, bookworms, and video gamers are just a few examples of chosen lives and identities that comfort those who prefer the outsider lifestyle. This exhibit seeks to tell some of these stories in the whimsical fashion that Aaron Jasinski and Bryan Collins are known for.

Factory Fresh

RDC Crew and Fiona
Checkin out the Factory that Jack Built...or Summit

Part 2

Plenty of pigeon shit in an abandoned factory is always a good sign of neglect and lack of maintenance and this one had shed loads!
After we had our chat with Fiona and finished the view, she showed us around the multi-story building that we met up in. We were glad Fiona knew her way around and after following her lead through a labyrinth of empty rooms, empty that is apart from the wicked spray work, textures of peeling paint, mosaics of smashed windows and petrified bird bodies.

The pic above didn't become obvious to us until we took a shot and looked at the image through the view finder, staggering... and for real!!

See what started it all... HERE
